A look at the transport industry in August

Earlier this month the Department for Transport announced the winners of a £2.5m research and development competition to accelerate the use of hydrogen transport in the Tees Valley. The trials will help better understand the role hydrogen has in meeting 2050 net zero ambitions, and will see diesel buses retrofitted with hydrogen fuel cells, supermarket chains benefitting from hydrogen delivery vans and the police and NHS using hydrogen vehicles for rapid response services.

TPS is the professional body for transport planners in the UK and is supported by the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, and The Royal Town Planning Institute.

A look at the transport industry in July

This month we saw the launch of the government’s Transport Decarbonisation Plan. The plan provides details on the way forward to create cleaner air, healthier communities and tens of thousands of new green jobs. Pledges by the government include a £2bn investment in walking and cycling infrastructure, 4000 new zero emissions buses and infrastructure, net zero rail by 2050, banning the sale of new petrol and diesel lorries by 2040 and consultation on ‘jet zero’ – steps to achieve aviation net zero by 2050.

A look at the transport industry in June

Earlier in June we saw the launch of the Institute for Public Policy Research’s plan for fairly decarbonising how people travel. The report outlines a vision for a transport system that is fair to all, works to improve people’s health and wellbeing and providers a better environment for nature.
